COMMONS CONGRATS FOR RUITON CHURCH
A Gornal church and Sunday school has been commended for achieving their 225th anniversary in an official House of Commons motion tabled by Dudley North MP Ian Austin.
The local MP tabled the motion to congratulate Ruiton Congregational Church and Sunday School which celebrates its 225th anniversary this year, making it the longest running Sunday School still operating in the country.
Ian Austin said:
“I tabled this motion to congratulate everyone involved in the church and the Sunday school on this magnificent anniversary. I think the Church makes a fantastic contribution to our community and the Sunday School does superb work for local children. It is a great example of the immense contribution churches make to community life in the UK.”
The text of the official House of Commons motion reads:
“That this House congratulates the Ruiton Congregational Church and Sunday School in Dudley, which celebrated its 225th anniversary on Sunday 29th April; notes that it is the oldest remaining Sunday school still in existence in the whole of the UK; commends the Church, its congregation and the Sunday school for all the tremendous work they do for local children and families and the immense contribution they make to the community; and wishes the Church and its congregation every good fortune for the future.”
