Use Your Voice!
Dudley Council Housing chiefs have today reiterated the openness of the current ‘Use Your Voice, Make Your Choice’
consultation over the future of Dudley’s housing.
The current 15 month long consultation is attempting to measure tenants and leaseholders’
aspirations for the future before looking at the options for the service. Open public meetings are taking place
across the borough this week, including one tonight (21/4/04) at The Lodge, Wellington Rd. Dudley (7pm start).
Councillor Michael Evans, Lead Member for Housing, said today:
‘An unprecedented amount of consultation is going into ‘Use Your Voice, Make Your Choice’. All Council’s
are to go through this process, and in Dudley we are taking the opportunity to talk to every tenant and find out
what they really want from their housing service.
‘The decision on which option will be most suitable for the future is as yet quite a way off. Nothing has been decided yet.
The whole process is designed to be inclusive, and everyone in Dudley, including all Councillors, have the opportunity to
take part in the debate if they wish to.
‘This is the biggest public consultation ever undertaken in Dudley, and I hope that given the true facts, people will seize
the opportunity to shape the future way forward for the housing service that they want and so rightfully deserve,’ he added.
Wow, the biggest ever! Yet no mention of it so far on their website?? The bottom line is that
Dudley’s housing stock faces a shortfall of over £250 million and many tens of millions
more will be needed to meet tenants aspirations. Sorry for the usual Yampy cynicism, but won't this be
a consultation where the bitter medicine has already been prescribed and the patient can only choose what
drink to wash it down with?
