Christingle Kids Stand Up to the Bullies
for further St. Peters Xmas services)
On Christmas Eve, 24th December 2003 at 6.30pm, local children and their families will be
gathering at St. Peters Church in Kent Street Upper Gornal, taking part in the Children's Society's
Christingle service to help young victims of bullying.
If you would like to join in this magical candle-lit church service or want more information please call
Rev. Michael Bate (01902 883467, p.m.).
This Christingle service will help raise funds for The Children's Society's work with some of society's
most rejected and isolated children and young people. The message this year to children and parents is that
bullying needs to be tackled by all of us.
The theme, Shining Light into Darkness, connects with the spirit of the charity and its anti-bullying work.
To suffer bullying, physical or psychological, intense or short-lived , is a dark place for any child to be in.
The Children's Society seeks to shine light into this darkness and offer hope through its work in schools, its projects
and from talking to children.
The Christingle service at St. Peter's aims to raise £500 for The Children's Society. Five thousand other
churches and schools across the country are also involved, hoping to raise £1 million to help the charity
continue its good work.
At the service, children will receive a Christingle - an orange bearing a candle, red ribbon and decorated with sweets.
The highlight of the service is when all the Christingle candles are lit, shinning light into darkness.
Each year The Children's Society helps over 50,000 children and young people through its 90 projects across the UK.
They include runaways, children in trouble with the law and children in schools. Their work deserves our
support, and a warm welcome is assured at St. Peter's on Xmas Eve.
