Oval Youngsters Have their Say
Judith Bennett
Oval Neighbourhood Officer
|
Youngsters at the Oval in Upper Gornal are having their say on the activities and facilities they would like to
see in the area.
The consultation followed an initial chat with residents that highlighted a gap in provision leading to it becoming
a priority for Dudley Council’s Neighbourhood Manager Judith Bennett. She set up a partnership steering group
with Barnardos, Dudley CVS, CEDD to explore ideas for consulting with children and young people. Funding was
secured by Dudley Youth Council from the Local Network Fund to appoint consultant organisation "Play Train"
to carry out the work.
So far children aged four to 11 have been consulted and a list of recommendations has been produced. The children
wanted the chance to take part in arts and crafts, dancing, reading and to have a safe play. Twelve to 16-year-olds
are currently being consulted and action plans for the recommendations will be developed in the coming months.
Last night children in both age groups gave a presentation to the North Dudley Area Committee, more details of which will
appear on Yampy shortly.
