Older People - Claim Your Benefits!
Older people across Dudley are being urged to apply for Housing Benefit as part of "Your Rights Week"
– a national campaign led by Age Concern.
Housing Services are backing the campaign with a local letter going out to all 11,000 Dudley Council tenants who are
currently not on housing benefit. The campaign urges older people in particular to check just in case they are eligible.
The criteria for receiving housing benefit covers people who do work as well as those who don’t; includes the sick and
disabled; those with less than £16,000 combined savings, and people who pay rent or Coucnil Tax
Latest figures show that across the UK 670,000 older people eligible for housing benefit did not claim
– leaving £820 million of unclaimed benefit last year.
Commenting this week, Lead Member for Housing, Councillor Michael Evans said:
‘Some people will think that housing benefit isn’t for them or that it involves a lot of forms to fill in,
but that isn’t the case. We can help any tenant check to see if they are eligible and by getting in touch with us
through Dudley Borough Direct on 01384 818283 we always have someone on hand to help. Additionally, people
can apply on-line by going to
www.dudley.gov.uk and clicking on A2Z of Forms.’
