It's that car parking issue again..
New Street residents are fuming following a recent article in the Dudley News
about the never ending battle for a car park in Gornal village.
The newspaper quoted a Council spokesman who reminded Gornal shoppers and businesses that
they can always use 'the free car park in New Street'. This has prompted a furious reaction
from locals,
including Leanne Trinder who told Yampy:
"I'm outraged. The car park is directly opposite my house but is not a public one.
It was built when the street, which largely consists of Victorian terraces, became congested."
The fear amongst Gornal people is that the statement is a smokescreen to mask continuing
apathy on this issue, despite long standing pledges by local politicians of all
persuasions to resolve the matter.
A Dudley News spokesperson confirmed that they had also received similar complaints arising
from the article, but did not know the identity of the spokesman who gave them the
controversial quote. Come on guys, you're a newspaper - you have to know your sources!
Fear not, Yampy will get onto the case and we will post an update on this story as soon as we
have further details.
"They will say anything to quash local public unease" concluded Ms. Trinder "and as a result
New Street residents may be unable to park near their own homes."
