Malcolm Finds Love through Yampy
A Surrey based Gornal ex-pat has located a long lost pal
after contacting Yampy.
Malcolm Grosvenor wrote to our
Find Old Friends
page to ask for help in his search for members of the Love family. When he left the area
more than twenty years ago, Malcolm said goodbye to his 'second home' at The Crooked House pub and
bid a sad farewell to its licensees, Mick and Flo Love, as well as sons
Ralph and Ian and daughter Heather.
Malcolm is now planning to emigrate to Canada and was desperate to trace his old friends before leaving.
Fortunately, we didn't even need to post this request on the site, because we knew Ian Love as the
landlord of the Red Cow in Grosvenor Road. His son Mike has helped us out in the past with useful
information about the various pubs his parents and grandparents have kept in the village.
We had a brief moment of panic when, having assured Malcolm that we could help him, we learnt that Ian had
retired from the Red Cow some months ago. Fortunately, he still drinks there and the new licencees passed on the
message for us.
Despite hearing the sad news that Ian's brother Ralph passed away some years ago, Malcolm is happy that he
has been reunited with the remaining Love family members.
"Yampy has worked!" Malcolm told us "Ian called me up and we've arranged to meet when I next go to watch Wolves play
in a couple of weeks time".
