Dudley Tops Housing League
Hey, we've found a table that we're not bottom of!
Dudley has scored amongst the top 22 Councils in the country when it comes to meeting government targets
for collecting rent and carrying out repairs.
The survey, compiled by leading industry magazine Inside Housing, found that Dudley MBC Housing Services carried
out 98% of urgent repairs on time. The same survey also showed that Dudley had only 2.3% of its tenants in rent arrears
– one of the lowest rates in the country. And its turnaround time in relation to empty properties of 43 days was
beaten only by Bolton and Rotherham amongst fellow Metropolitan districts.
The figures reveal that Dudley is the only Council in the West Midlands to feature in the top 22 of Council’s
– out of 450 local authorities nationwide – meeting these specific targets. It was also the largest Council featured.
The news comes on the back of recent announcements on the capital repairs programme for the coming three years which will
help clear the backlog of over 13,000 non-urgent repairs.
Lead Member for Housing, Councillor Michael Evans, said:
‘This is marvellous testament to the hard work put into these areas in recent years. It shows that Dudley leads the way,
not just in the West Midlands, but also on the national stage, when it comes to improving its housing service.’
Yampy is pleased to note the 'in recent years' part of Cllr. Evans statement. The achievement is no doubt due to
work done by Council Officers under successive administrations, including the present one,
and it's a welcome change to find a local politician who is not trying to put a party spin on good news.
