MP's Dismay over Christmas Vandals
Dudley North MP Ross Cranston has told Yampy of his sadness over a particularly shameful
incident at Gornal Cemetary last Friday evening, when intruders left a prickly mess
after hacking to bits a mature holly tree.
"I am appalled to hear of this senseless vandalism which, at this time of year, is particularly mean spirited as well"
said Mr. Cranston, who went on to underline the importance of Dudley Council implementing new
anti-social behaviour legislation.
Staff at Dudley Council’s Bereavement Services are now urging people to think twice before buying bargain holly
decorations in the run up to Christmas.
“We try to make the grounds in the crematorium and cemetery a suitable backdrop for ceremonies and for families
and friends visiting their loved ones’ resting places" said Liz Mansell, Head of Bereavement Services.
"This recent incident has sickened everyone here. I am sure the motivation for this disgraceful act was profit.
I hope people in the area will think twice when presented with a ‘bargain’ holly decoration."
