Title Trophy on Show at Garden Walk
Newly crowned
Gornal Athletic FC
will be showing off their W. Midlands League (Division 1 South)
championship trophy this Wednesday evening (12th May 7.45pm) at Garden Walk, when the team play their
rearranged league match against Leominster.
The Peacocks sealed the title with a 1-0 win against Malvern a couple of weeks ago and followed this up with a
3-0 away victory at Chaddersley Corbett last Saturday (8th).
Newly installed Joint Managers Tony Wall and Martin Thomas promised at the start of the campaign that they would resign
if they did not
secure promotion and brought in an almost completely new squad of players who have certainly delivered the goods
on the field.
However, the WM Premier League is a step up in class. Wall and Thomas will be looking for strong
commitment from the club chairman and committee in order to meet next season's challenges.
The experienced Management team were partly attracted to Garden Walk by promises of a bright future at a new stadium,
plans for which appear to have stalled. Yampy hopes that they will now receive the backing they need to create
something special come September.
Continuity is the key for the Peacocks, both on and off the field. If the club were to let Wall and Thomas
slip through their fingers they may also lose the core of the playing squad that came with them.
And with it, perhaps, the prospect of a successful season in the top flight.
