GORNAL ATHLETIC'S UNIQUE 'DOUBLE'
Gornal Athletic FC has completed a unique double with their First and Youth teams both winning their league championships
in the space of three days.
The First Team made sure of the Division 1 South title in the West Midlands (Regional) League on Saturday with a 1-0 win
over Malvern Town Reserves. On Monday evening the Youth Team travelled to Gresley Rovers where they also triumphed 1-0 to
take the Western Division title in the Midland Floodlit Youth League. In both cases the teams now take their place in the
Premier Divisions of their respective leagues.
“It’s been a fantastic holiday weekend for us” exclaimed a delighted Gornal Athletic Chairman, Chris Smith. “Even if it did
cost us a fortune in champagne!” he joked.
“The managers and players of both teams can be very proud of themselves. In both cases the teams have headed their divisions
for virtually the whole season. It’s been a magnificent year – probably the best in our history” he continued.
“We will be looking forward to our First Team entertaining old rivals Dudley, Lye, Tividale and Brierley & Hagley
next season whilst our Youth Team will be against their counterparts from the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Kidderminster
and Hereford.”
The Club has also just launched its own web-site at
www.gafc.org.uk
with details of all 19 teams playing in the Club’s colours included.
