Peacocks' Promotion Push
Gornal Athletic took another huge leap towards promotion back to the West Midlands Premier League last Saturday
(10/4/04), with a comfortable 4-1 victory over bottom of the table Reality Sports at Garden Walk.
Joint Manager Tony Wall had earlier explained to the Dudley News that three wins out of the final six games should be
sufficient to lift the Division One South championship. Saturday's result reduces that to two out of five and opens up an
eight point gap over nearest challengers Bridgnorth Town Reserves, with a game in hand.
A week ago the Peacocks were defeated 2-1 in the League Cup by a Heath Hayes Reserve side that comprised mainly of first team
regulars. Despite the loss, Wall told reporters that he was encouraged by the performance against the level of opposition
they may face next season.
This Saturday (17/4/04) the Gornal men meet Malvern Town Reserves at home, looking to take another step closer to
the division they were relegated from less than twelve months ago. Kick off is 2.45pm.
