"Earn While You Learn" Comes to Dudley
Our MP Ross Cranston has spoken of his delight at the news that Education Maintenance Allowances are to be extended
nationwide and will now be available in Dudley.
Every student starting further education (A-Levels) in September from a household with an income of £30,000
or less will be eligible for a "grant" each week.
Ross remarked:
"I have been urging the DFES for some time to extend this scheme nationwide.
The scheme has already been operating in Sandwell and Wolverhampton and it has been unfair that young people
from Dudley have not been given this incentive to stay in education despite attending many of the same schools
and colleges as their neighbours.
The whole of Black Country can now benefit from this scheme which I hope will reduce the numbers of young people
dropping out of education.
"I want every eligible family in Dudley to apply" continued Mr. Cranston "If your income is less than £30,000 and you have a
child who is
considering staying on at school next September, apply now by calling 080810 16 2 19 or by going to the website
at
www.ema.dfes.gov.uk. Every pupil in year 11 at school should be
receiving an application pack this month -
if you don't get yours, please write to me at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA and I will make sure your application
pack is sent to you."
