Do they mean us?
Yampy has noticed that Lower Gornal has recently found its way onto the
www.chavtowns.co.uk website and is thus 'officially' recognised as
a meeting place and breeding ground for that phenomenon of youth culture, the
Chav (think 'Trisha Show' and you're on your
way to understanding the term).
.
Our 'citation' reads:
You can not find a more chav place than Lower Gornal in the West Midlands - it has all the pre-requisite chav elements -
Spar: for general loitering, Chip Shop (see Spar), Pubs - for sitting outside in their Novas and even a launderette that
the chavs gravitate to with their cheap cider and alchol pops!
There is even a chav haven: the chav pub - The Straits House - this is the beacon for chavs/chavettes - come rain
or shine this strange creature can be found sitting outside, with their burberry caps, trackie suits, bad haircuts
and cheap gold jewellry, discussing spoilers and listening to such musical joys as 50p (sorry cent) and The Streets.
Unhelpful stereotype, or is it a case of 'if the fake designer cap fits, then wear it'? We remember well the
arguments we caused a couple of years ago when we published the
Gornal Earthquake Joke. Should we laugh
at ourselves along with everyone else, or get shirty about it? Let us know what you think.
