MP's "SAVE HIGHFIELDS" PLEA
Dudley North MP IAN AUSTIN today urged Dudley Council to drop its plan to close two primary schools in his Dudley North constituency, Highfields School in Coseley and Sycamore Green.
At 11am today (Friday 21/10/05) Austin and Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho are handing in their submissions to Dudley Council’s consultation document “Learning for the Future – Primary School Review”. This will take place at the Education Department, Westox House, 1 Trinity Road, Dudley, DY1 1JQ.
Ian Austin said:
“Parents, pupils, teachers and the community as a whole are united in their opposition to these plans. I have met many parents, visited both schools and met staff and pupils and have seen at first hand the work the schools are doing. I’m completely on their side I do not believe either school should close.
“I urge the council to consider carefully the other proposals that have been suggested by the schools, governors and parents and produce alternatives that do not involve the closure of either school. Alternative solutions must be examined instead of closing these two excellent schools.”
