HOLDEN'S BECOMES MP'S TIPPLE
Right Honourable Members will soon get the chance to sample beer from Woodsetton's Holdens brewery – thanks to local MPs IAN AUSTIN and TOM WATSON.
Mr Austin (Dudley North) and Mr Watson (West Bromwich East) launched a campaign earlier this summer to persuade the Houses of Parliament to stock Holden’s beers. The two MPs wrote to the Parliamentary authorities requesting that the Black Country's finest ales be served in the Palace of Westminster, after sampling some of Holden’s beers during a tour of the company's brewery in Woodsetton in Austin’s constituency.
They have now received a letter from the House Authorities saying that Black Country Bitter from Holden’s will be served in the Stranger’s Bar as part of Parliament’s guest ales programme. Ian Austin said:
"I’m delighted by this news. Holden’s are a great company, producing high quality products, creating jobs and winning business for the Black Country. I want to do all I can to promote produce from our area and I’m delighted other MPs will get the chance to sample our award-winning local brews.”
Tom Watson said:
“Holden’s are a great local business producing great Black Country beers. We wanted to give other MPs, Lords and Parliament's staff the opportunity to taste some of the delicious beers brewed in the Black Country."
The History of Holden's Brewery, by noted pub historian John Richards, is now available at our Black Country Shop - click here. Simpkiss and Bathams histories are also on sale.
