COSELEY TOWN LADIES FC

Has the recent televised coverage of the UEFA European Womens Football Championship inspired you to get involved, either as player or fan, with one of the fastest growing sports in the world?

The female game has improved almost beyond recognition over the past few seasons. The skill and tenacity shown by Kelly Smith, not to mention the guts and determination of Faye Whyte, has helped to silence once and for all the patronising attitude of the last few male chauvinist dinosaurs. Plus, that Rachel Unitt is a bit of a babe(chauvinist comment censored, Ed.)

Not that Coseley Town Ladies can be accused of jumping on any soccer bandwagon, having formed four long years ago. Initially known as Sedgley White Lions, they moved further down the hill after two seasons, making the same name change as their male equivalents.

The men's Coseley Town has now finally folded, after a dismal couple of years as Gornal Athletic's tenants at Garden Walk. Not so, Coseley Town Ladies however. Their "Players' Player of the Year" Jo Loach tells us that, as Margaret Thatcher would no doubt have said, "the ladies are not for turning". Not only will the girls be competing in the new campaign, but they are in training already, with a session booked for Sunday 19th June 2005, 2pm at Clayton Park (Old Meeting Road).

Over the years, Coseley Ladies have had their share of talented footballers, but a lack of continuity of management, trainers and players has helped to entrench them firmly in the lower reaches of the West Midlands Regional League (Division One North). However, there is now a sense of stability and renewed optimism in the camp. As a quick surf through their website at coseleytownladiesfc.moonfruit.com will testify, there is also plenty of team spirit and purpose amongst the squad - along with a rather alarmingly active social calendar!

The team are on the lookout for both outfield players and an experienced goalkeeper. If you're interested, contact details are all on the website. Potential club sponsors also welcome!

Stay tuned to Yampy Coseley for news of the team's progress in 2005/06. Best of luck ladies!
