COSELEY CIVIC TRUST LATEST
..fight to save our Archives Centre!

Coseley Civic Trust took another huge step forwards last week, when Articles and Memorandum were sent to Companies House, along with application forms for incorporation as a company limited by guarantee. The documents were signed at the Apple Tree pub in Roseville/Old End, by all seven required trustees.

If successful the Registrar of Companies will issue a certificate of incorporation, allowing the group to apply to the Charities Commission for registered charity status. This will give the Trust legal status neccessary to take on building restoration projects, and to provide amenities in them.

Top priority will be the battle for our Archives Centre at Mount Pleasant School Coseley, the present home of Dudley M.B.C. Archives and Local History Service. According to Coseley Civic Trust Chairman John Wilkes, a planning application for residential development at the site is imminent - backed by Dudley Council.

Campaigners to save the facility have previously been told by the Council that alternative business plans for the facility would be considered. But in practice, funding opportunities could not be realised without the legal status that the Civic Trust should soon be able to provide. Importantly, such opportunities would also depend on the co-operation of Dudley Council.

Coseley Civic Trust is set to oppose any planning application that involves demolition of the historic school. If you would like to get involved, contact John Wilkes on 01902 491583.
