MP: CURB COSELEY KNIEVELS!
Dudley North MP, Ian Austin, has called for a crack-down on the anti-social use of motorbikes and mini-motorcycles in parks and land open to the public.
Austin demanded action after residents from Woodsetton complained about motorbikes being used at Turls Hill and Swanbrook Valley.
He is backing a House of Commons motion calling for the Government to introduce a system of registration for mini-motorcycles, is lobbying government ministers to bring in restrictions on the sale and proper licensing of mini-motorbikes and is calling on the council to fence off Turls Hill and Swanbrook Valley.
Ian Austin attended last week’s AGM of the Turls Hill and Swanbrook Valley Residents Association and said:
“I don’t see why these teenage Evil Knievels should be able to disturb my constituents’ peace and quiet, put everyone else at risk and damage the environment.
“People use this area every day to walk their dogs, exercise and enjoy the surroundings and it is unacceptable that the majority of people who use the area responsibly should be put in danger by a minority of teenagers roaring around on motorbikes.
“I’m on their side and want to see tough action to sort out the problem.
“Dudley Council need to fence the area off securely and prevent people getting access in the first place.
“Where people are caught using these bikes illegally, they should be confiscated and destroyed.
“And we need to consider imposing real restrictions on the sale of mini-motorcycles because clamping down on sales is by far the most sensible way of preventing the problem from occurring in the first place.”
